Hanging Wall Cabinet with Zollverein Marquetry

The project was long planned as the wood was in my shop for a long time as well. The size and plan for the cabinet is inspired by the Online Course “Kleines Hängeschränkchen” by Heiko Rech. I changed the type of wood slightly and modified the filling of the sliding door to use a nice marquetry showing the coal mine “Zollverein” from my home city in Essen/Germany.

The body of the cabinet is made out of walnut from a local hardware store and the sliding door is done out of massive cherry. The filling of the door is out of plywood veneered with padouk, walnut, purpleheart and black-colored Baltic birch.

The doors runs in grooves

In the top and bottom of the body there is a groove cut in which the doors run.

Edge joints

To put the cabinet together I used dovetails cut with a router template

The “Letzte Schicht” Spirit

The “Letzte Schicht” Spirit found its place.

The Marquetry

It is done using my simple Atomstack A5 Laser Engraver using padouk, purpleheart, walnut and black colored birch veneers.

Handcarved spoons

A meditative type of wood working is the carving of spoons. I tried that with a tool set from Narex and ordered a Spoon Carving kit from the Spoon Crank to get used to it.
